Global technology giant Lenovo is set to establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia, marking a significant step in the Kingdom’s efforts to expand its technology sector.
The new factory, located within Riyadh Integrated Logistics Zone, will produce millions of Saudi-made laptops, desktops, and servers. The facility is being developed in partnership with Alat, a Public Investment Fund (PIF) company dedicated to advancing high-tech manufacturing in the region.
Strategic investment in Saudi industry
The facility will be built on a 200,000-square-metre site, strategically positioned just 15 minutes from King Khalid International Airport. This location is expected to enhance Lenovo’s supply chain efficiency, providing streamlined logistics and improved access to markets across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
The initiative forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to position itself as a global technology hub. The investment underscores the growing appeal of the Kingdom’s advanced infrastructure and business-friendly policies in attracting multinational companies.
Boost for jobs and economy
The facility is scheduled to begin production in 2026 and is expected to create up to 15,000 direct jobs and an additional 45,000 indirect jobs. The influx of skilled roles is anticipated to provide a significant boost to the Saudi economy, contributing to the goals set out in Saudi Vision 2030.
Dr. Fadi Al-Buhairan, Chief Executive Officer of the Special Integrated Logistics Zone (SILZ) Company, welcomed the development, stating: “Welcoming Lenovo to Riyadh Integrated solidifies our position as a leading hub for advanced manufacturing and technology in the region.
“The groundbreaking ceremony, in collaboration with Alat, marks a pivotal moment for Saudi Arabia’s technology sector. Lenovo’s decision to establish its manufacturing base here demonstrates their confidence in our world-class infrastructure and strategic location as a gateway to the MENA market.
“We are confident that this partnership will generate significant employment, stimulate economic growth, and contribute extensively to Saudi Vision 2030’s objectives.”
Strengthening global supply chains
The new facility will be an integral part of Lenovo’s global manufacturing network, which is ranked among the top 10 globally by research firm Gartner. Riyadh Integrated’s advanced infrastructure will enable Lenovo to bring its products to market more efficiently, enhancing its competitive edge in the region.
Alat’s involvement highlights Saudi Arabia’s ambition to become a leader in high-tech manufacturing. As an investment partner, Alat is committed to developing the country’s technological capabilities, ensuring that global companies such as Lenovo can operate effectively within the Kingdom.
Saudi Arabia’s growing tech ambitions
The announcement comes as Saudi Arabia continues to invest heavily in its technology sector, attracting international firms and fostering local innovation. With the support of major industry players and strategic partnerships, the Kingdom aims to establish itself as a key player in global tech manufacturing.
The launch of Lenovo’s Riyadh facility is seen as a major milestone in these efforts, with long-term benefits expected for both the company and the broader Saudi economy.
