A special screening of the stage adaptation of Dr. Strangelove, starring seven-time BAFTA Award-winner Steve Coogan, will take place at Dubai’s Courtyard Playhouse on 29 March.
Coogan plays four roles in this reimagining of Stanley Kubrick’s classic Cold War satire, which has been adapted for the stage by Emmy Award-winner Armando Iannucci and Olivier Award-winning director Sean Foley.
The production, which premiered in London’s West End to critical acclaim, brings fresh energy to Kubrick’s 1964 masterpiece, a darkly comic take on nuclear war.
A Satirical Classic Reimagined
Dr. Strangelove, originally a film starring Peter Sellers, tells the story of a rogue U.S. general who orders an unauthorised nuclear strike on the Soviet Union. As world leaders scramble to prevent catastrophe, absurdity and political farce unfold.
The stage version has been hailed as a “masterful recreation” of Kubrick’s vision, with Coogan’s multi-role performance drawing particular praise. Broadway World awarded the production ★★★★★, while The Stage and The Daily Express each gave it ★★★★ reviews.
“The show is explosively funny,” said one critic. “Coogan’s boundless energy and impeccable comic timing make this adaptation a triumph.”
